AbstractThe aim of the present work was to study the chlorophyll-a (Cl-a) concentrations in the Waters of urban area dams through spectral reflectance. The water samples and radiometric measures were performed in October 2010, in 16 random points in the Santo Anastácio dam, Campus do Pici, Fortaleza, Ceará. Mathematical analysis techniques were used to identify the characteristic spectral features of the Cl-aand the regression analysis to generate the explanatory model of the concentrations of this component. The analysis results of the reflectance factor presented characteristic features of the spectral behavior of Waters rich in Cl-a. The results showed that the first derivate permitted to accentuate information seen in the spectral curves. The highest correlation coefficients of the chlorophyll-a with the first order derivate are found in the wavelengths ranging from 550 nm (r = 0.7677) and 709 nm (r = 0.9627). The regression model relating the chlorophyll-a concentration with the first derivate in 709 nm, was ajusted with na R2 of 0.9267. The adjusted model presented good performance of the analyzed statistical parameters. According to Willmonts index (d) and the performance index (c), the model developed for the Cl-a variable showed to be very reliable, presenting a degree of performance considered optimum (c > 0.85). The adjusted regression model showed that it is possible to infer upon the variable Cl-a, in the studied area, based on the spectral responses of this variable.
